U.S. Import Regulations – What You Need to Know
Quick Update
As of August 29, 2025, all U.S. shipments are subject to customs clearance and import duties, regardless of order value. Expect potential delays at customs due to the new processing requirements. You may be asked to provide importer information like SSN or EIN, so please check your email and respond promptly to avoid delays. We’re here to support you with documentation, but duties and holds are beyond our control.
U.S. Import Regulations – What You Need to Know
For all orders shipped to the United States, customers are considered the importer of record and are responsible for any applicable duties, taxes, or import fees.
What Changed – August 29, 2025
-
The U.S. Government has removed the de minimis exemption that previously allowed shipments under $800 USD to enter duty-free.
-
This means all shipments, regardless of value, must now go through customs clearance and may be subject to duties and/or import fees.
-
U.S. Customs agencies are processing thousands more packages per day, leading to longer clearance times and potential backlogs.
Preferential Tariff Treatment under USMCA/CUSMA
- We submit USMCA/CUSMA documentation with your order.
-
However, customs still requires full clearance on every package, and customers may still be responsible for taxes, brokerage fees, or importer documentation requests.
Importer Responsibilities
-
You may be contacted by FedEx (or another carrier) to provide importer information such as your SSN, EIN, or IRS number. This is a normal part of the clearance process, and prompt response is essential to avoid delays.
-
Rocky Mountain Decals is not responsible for delays, holds, or returns caused by missing importer information, unpaid fees, or refusal to provide requested documentation.
Please Note
Import regulations and processing times may change at any time by U.S. Customs and shipping carriers.
For the most accurate and up-to-date guidance, we recommend contacting FedEx or your local U.S. Customs office.
